Dancing by Tarale Wolffe

We swayed upon the floor

The only father I’d known, and I

As eyes watched on

And saw the bond grown strong

Safe in strong arms against the sea of eyes

A milestone in a new chapter of life

The new man standing aside

As the old man held me tight.

In gentle arms, he held me firm

With gentle eyes, he took me in

With gentle voice he spoke to me

The world blurred before me.

He said nothing more

His grip held strong

Just like I’d always known

And let me cry upon an arm

One hand left me

Waving to the new

He gave me over, with softly worded threat

And slowly walked away.

And I, in the arms of the new,

Knew life would never be the same.
